सबकी साँसों की शमा जलाते रहे
वो बनाते रहे वो उगाते रहे

उनके हाथों जहां की हर शय बनी

Translation
The flickering flames of their eyes
Lit up the candle of every breath
They crafted, they grew
They wove, they clothed
Their hands have carved every artefact there is
Toiling along, shedding their blood
Across generations, forefathers to children
They lit the bonfires of their own dreams
They had no voice, their lips were sealed
Yet their singing continued, humming didn’t cease
When all stood still with life locked down
They came in a deluge surging through the streets
The moon shared their grief, the stars too
Those who did not were absolved, letting them be
Nature scars once in an eon

Sailaab - Context
While Homed India stayed safe indoors, the migrants’ India walked, cycled & struggled to reach home.
As calls, field reports, news and images began to pour in during the lockdown, our hearts were overwhelmed with emotions, with anger, with sadness. And these lines began to flow.
